The Awesome “Aussie” Burger

with roasted beet, grilled pineapple, fried egg, provolone cheese, & spicy mayo

I wish I could take credit for this mammoth of an awesomely rad “Aussie” burger, but sadly I cannot. All the praise goes to Dennis Prescott. I am a huge burger fan and normally go for the classic bacon and cheddar cheeseburger, but when I came across Dennis’s recipe while going through Instagram I knew I needed try it immediately. This is by far the craziest burger I have ever had and absolutely, hands down loved it.

I know what you are thinking, “roasted beets and grilled pineapple on a burger? Are you serious”? I am so serious. So serious, that I kind of want another one as I write this post right now.

This gigantic burger housed some seriously delicious mega flavors that knocked my taste buds around and threw them for a loop. There is a definite sweet and spicy flare to the burger that is out of this world amazing. I loved how the gooey fried egg, roasted beet, grilled pineapple, and spicy mayo all worked together to create layers of yum within two buns. I highly suggest you eat this…immediately!

*(You can get the recipe for Dennis’s “Aussie Burgers with the Lot” here).

Ingredients: The meat amount yields 4 1/2 Ib. burgers

  • 1 Brioche Bun
  • 1 1/2 lb Beef Patty
  • 1 Fried Egg
  • 2 Slices Roasted Beet
  • 3 Beet Leaves (the top green leafy portion of the beet)
  • 1 Slice of Pineapple, grilled
  • 1 slice of Provolone Cheese
  • Spicy Mayo

Beef Patties Ingredients:

  • 1 Ib. Ground Round Beef
  • 1 IB. Ground Chuck Beef
  • 10 Shakes of Worchester Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Onion Powder
  • 1 Tbsp. Horseradish
  • 1/2 tsp. Chili Powder
  • Salt/ Pepper, to taste

*If 1/2 Ib. burgers aren’t your thing, then you can easily make 6 – 8 1/4 Ib. burgers with the ingredients. I just prefer a fatter patty.

Directions:

*It is good to have the pineapple, beets, and egg ready to go for this burger. I pre-made my beets and pre-grilled my pineapple so it was ready by the time the burger was done cooking. I timed it so the egg was finished cooking by the time the burger was done resting and I was ready to assemble my burger.

  1. Mix your beef patty meat together and shape into 4 round burgers. Place on a grill or broil in the oven until the burgers are cooked (I like my burger medium rare so if grilling, cook 3-4 minutes on one side and then another 4 minutes on the other. If broiling 3 minutes on both sides). After cooking the 1 side, flip and add the slice of cheese so it is melted by the time the other side is cooked.
  2. Remove from the grill and allow to rest for 5 minutes.
  3. Fry up your egg in a pan over medium heat and toast your brioche bun. I placed on my bun on the oven rack for about 2 minutes (you can do this on the grill as well). When the egg is cooked (about 5 minutes), remove from the heat and set aside.

Assemble the burger:

  • Bottom Bun
  • Beet Leaves
  • Spicy Mayo
  • Burger Patty
  • Beet Slices
  • Grilled Pineapple
  • Fried Egg
  • Top Bun
